WHO WE ARE
Home for Good New Orleans is a community-wide effort to achieve low to no unsheltered homelessness in New Orleans by the end of 2025.
Our Vision
A community where homelessness is rare, brief, and non-recurring; where every resident has access to safe, affordable housing, and where the support and resources needed to overcome homelessness are readily available; where compassion, equity, and inclusion thrive.
WHAT WE DO
In 2023, HFGNO established a collective plan to systematically reduce street homelessness by 2025. We committed to housing 1,500 individuals in this time frame through three pathways: targeted encampment decommissioning, housing navigation to all other unsheltered persons, and accelerated exits from shelter.
Targeted Encampment Decommissioning
Large encampment areas pose significant public health risks to their residents and their surrounding communities. By targeting these locations for decommissioning, we can provide housing opportunities to individuals in need while alleviating public health concerns and returning public space to public use.
Coordinated Housing Navigation to All Other Unsheltered Persons
Conducted in parallel with encampment decommissioning, coordinated housing navigation ensures equitable access to housing resources. Those most in need will not be left behind simply because they don’t live in an encampment.
Amplify & Accelerate Exits from Shelter to Housing
Shelters play a vital role in an effective homeless service network. By improving shelters’ capacity to rapidly rehouse their residents, we create flow through the system and make beds available to those who may become homeless during the project period.

- Braiding local, state, and federal resources.
- Targeted capacity city-wide and in encampment areas.
- Engage rental market to hold quality units and support landlords – bringing new housing options to the table.
- Sustainability planning will identify future investments necessary to maintain our results.

SUPPORT US
While increased federal and local funding allows HFGNO to house more clients, key funding gaps remain. Regulations prevent certain public dollars from being spent on resources or activities that can help clients make a successful transition into housing. In response, HFGNO has partnered with United Way of Southeast Louisiana and the Greater New Orleans Foundation to establish a flexible fund to cover such gaps.
Examples of resources that are acquired through the flex fund include (but not limited to) furniture, move-in kits (hygiene/cleaning supplies, pots & pans, etc.), security deposits, pet fees, and other landlord incentives.
